چکیده

Accumulation and cellular distribution of '̂Am, 2'0Po, and "Opb were studied in the marine diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana and the marine green alga Dunaliella tertiolecta, Both species concentrated Am, Po, and Pb from artificially spiked cultures, resulting in wet weight concentration factors of approximately 1 to 4 X lo5 for '̂Am, 3 to 7 X lo4 for 210Po, and 5 to 17 X lo3 for "OPb. These concentration factors are comparable to those based on analyses of natural plankton assemblages. In contrast to 2'0Po, ̂ Am and "OPb appeared to associate almost exclusively with structural components (cell walls and plasmalemmae) and showed no evidence of protein association. The data, together with field evidence, suggest that '̂Am and "OPb are not bound to cell material easily assimilated by herbivorous zooplankton, while "'Po associates with cellular organic compounds and is assimilated in animals. This may lead to high "OPo turnover rates in surface waters.

Accumulation, depuration and risk assessment of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in clam (Corbicula fluminea) (O. F. Müller, 1774) under laboratory conditions

The present study investigated the accumulation and depuration of two heavy metals Cd and Pb in the freshwater clam  (Corbicula fluminea) under laboratory conditions. Treated clams were exposed to single and combined treatments of Cd and Pb at the concentration of 5 mg L-1 and 10.5 mg L-1 for 10 days, respectively. The animals were then placed in metal free water for the following 5 days for de...

Biota-sediment accumulation factor and concentration of heavy metals (Hg, Cd, As, Ni, Pb and Cu) in sediments and tissues of Chiton lamyi (Mollusca: Polyplacophora: Chitonidae) in Chabahar Bay, Iran

Heavy metals and some organic substances which are drained into the aquatic environments and cannot be decomposed or eliminated will sink into sediments or find their way into different levels of food chain. Bioaccumulation is the process of continuous deposition and aggregation of these substances into the body tissue of living organisms. Mollusks are remarkably appropriate to be used as bio-i...

Diversity, growth forms and rhodolith distribution: factors controlling the fabric of coralline algae of the early Miocene deposits, Cairo – Suez road, Egypt

The Lower Miocene deposits in Gabal Gharra, Cairo – Suez District, unconformably overlies the Oligocene and Eocene deposits. They consist predominantly of regressive and transgressive mixed siliciclastic / carbonate sediments of shallow marine environments. The Lower Miocene deposits are represented lithostratigraphically by the Gharra Formation that comprises four members, from base to top: Ag...

A Correlation between Detergent Tolerance and Cell Wall Structure in Green Algae

12 strains o f the geni Chlorella, Scenedesmus, Chlamydomonas, and Dunaliella were tested for their tolerance against the anionic detergent “L A S” (linear alkylbenzene sulfonate). Cellular parameters (cell titer and chlorophyll content) were monitored for 28 days after addition o f LAS (0 .0 1 —2 m M ) . A 100-fold difference in sensitivity toward LAS was detected for the algal strains analyze...
